Issues
Type a title, description, and URL to see exactly how the result would render in Google — including where it gets cut off. Google truncates by pixel width, not character count, so the tool measures your text in Arial at the same sizes Google uses and flags anything that overflows on desktop or mobile.
How it works
- 1 Paste your title and description Drop in the <title> and <meta name="description"> you are planning to ship. The preview redraws on every keystroke.
- 2 Add the page URL The URL becomes the breadcrumb line above the title. It is also checked for http://, underscores, and uppercase path segments.
- 3 Switch between desktop and mobile Mobile gives titles and snippets more room than desktop. A title that fits on a phone can still be cut on a laptop, so check both.
- 4 Fix whatever the issue list flags Each warning names a concrete problem — truncation, a repeated word, a missing focus keyword — and the score updates as you edit.
Your data stays private
All processing happens entirely in your browser. No files, text, or data are ever sent to our servers. You can disconnect from the internet and this tool will still work.
Frequently asked questions
- How many characters can a Google title be?
- There is no character limit — Google cuts titles at roughly 580 pixels on desktop. That works out to about 60 characters of average English text, but a title full of capitals and Ms will be cut around 45 characters while a lowercase title of thin letters can survive past 70. Pixel width is the only measurement that holds.
- What pixel limits does this tool use?
- Desktop: 580 px for the title at 20 px Arial and 920 px for the description at 14 px. Mobile: 920 px for the title and 1300 px for the description, because both wrap over more lines on a phone. These match the widths Google's own result container renders at.
- Why does Google show a different title than the one I wrote?
- Google rewrites titles for roughly a third of results. The usual triggers are titles that are too long, stuffed with a repeated keyword, written in all capitals, or padded with boilerplate that repeats on every page. A title that fits the pixel budget and reads like a sentence is much likelier to survive intact.
- Does the meta description affect rankings?
- Not directly — Google confirmed years ago that the description is not a ranking factor. It affects click-through rate, which is what you are actually buying with a good snippet. If you leave it empty, Google pulls a sentence off the page instead, and it usually picks a worse one than you would.
- Is my text sent anywhere?
- No. The measurement runs in your browser using a built-in Arial width table, so nothing is uploaded and nothing is stored. You can close the tab mid-edit and nothing is left behind.
- Why measure Arial when Google uses its own font?
- Google serves Arial on the desktop SERP for both the title link and the snippet body, falling back to the system sans-serif elsewhere. Arial and Helvetica share the same advance widths, and Roboto — used on Android — is within a couple of percent, so the measurement holds up across devices.
- What is a good length to aim for?
- Roughly 50–60 characters for the title and 140–160 for the description, then check the pixel bar. Aim for 90–100 percent of the budget: filling it is free real estate, and going over means your last words are replaced by an ellipsis.
